Document placeholders allow signers to upload their own files as part of a workflow, making them ideal for situations where the exact document cannot be predetermined. Once the documents are sent, signers can upload files in DOCX, PDF, or XLSX formats during their assigned step.

Note: Uploading files to the document placeholder form is only available for users (not available for Admins).

How to Upload a File

  1. During their assigned step, signers need to select the "Upload" option to add a file from their device.

  2. The uploaded file is automatically converted to PDF format.

  3. Once uploaded, the file will open immediately in the PDF editor for review or to fill out any necessary fields.

If a signer wants to insert special fillable field tags directly into the file before uploading, check this article.

After uploading, the document will be accessible in the PDF editor.

  • If the uploaded document contains fillable fields, these will be available for signers with access to the document to complete. Additionally, they will be able to edit any fillable fields that were previously completed by other users;

  • If the uploaded file contains any required fillable fields, signers will not be able to leave the document without completing them;

  • Fillable fields in documents uploaded to the document placeholder will not be available for other steps.
